The "Perfectly Simple" Margarita
Ingredients
Cocktail:
- 5 lime wedges
- 2 lemon wedges
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1 oz orange juice
- 1.5 oz tequila
- coarse salt and lime wedges for garnish
Steps
- Make simple syrup as follows:
- Place the sugar and water in a small (ideally nonstick) pot.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Turn off the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
- Set aside 1 oz for your cocktail, then store the rest in a sealed glass jar in the fridge for up to 1 month.
- Prepare a cocktail glass by salting the rim and filling with ice.
- Muddle lime and lemon wedges with the simple syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
- Add orange juice, tequila, and ice. Shake vigorously.
- Strain into prepared glass. Garnish with lime wedge.
Notes:
This recipe was sent to me by my mom, Bonnie, but it originally comes from our friend Eric.
It is truly the best margarita recipe. I can never go back to margarita mix or pre-made sour mix. They will forever be inferior.
Also, you can use all lime wedges instead of the mix of lime and lemon if you prefer a more "classic" margarita taste.
